Tim net tonnage of vessels engaged in the foreign trade entering U.K. ports with cargoes during September was 1.6 per cent, less than In September, 1933, while arrivals in ballast were 4.7 per cent, smaller. Departures with cargo showed a decrease of 3.3 per cent, and clearances in ballast also declined. The total net tonnage entered and cleared with cargo in the third quarter of tills year was higher than in any of the three nrecedlng quarters; entrances and clearances in ballast were about 5 per epiit. below September quarter, 1933. THE QUEEN MARY Requests for Accommodation Over a hundred requests for passage' on the maiden voyage of the Cunard-YVhite Star liner Queen Mary have already been received by offices of the steamship company in the various parts of the world. Nowhere has public interest in the colossal new ship, now being completed at Clydebank, Scotland, been greater than-in the United States and Canada, where manyapplications for the first trip of the ship are being kept on file. While no definite announcement of the actual date when the Queen Mary will enter traiis-Atlantic service has yet been jtiade by Cunard-Whlte Star officials, it is generally expected that it will be some time early in 1936. Since details of the passenger accommodation of the ship are not yet known, it has not been possible to open berthing books and assign the applicants to definite staterooms. The first application for accommodation was made as early as July. 1931. THE MARAMA. The Union Company’s Marama, from Melbourne, is to leave Sydney to-day for YVellington. She is due here next Wednesday morning and will leave again the following Friday for Sydney. MAHENO’S TRANSHIPMENTS. The Union Company’s Maheno, which i» due at Wellington to-morrow morning from Melbourne via South Island ports, has transhipments ex Nirvana, Nieuw Holland, Kitano Maru, Y'iminale and Oronsay. ATHELREGENT LEAY’ES SAN PEDRO. The Unioq Company has received cabled advice that its chartered tanker Athelregent left San Pedro on December 26 with bulk fuel-oil for YVellington. She is due here on January 20. TUSCAN STAR AT BALBOA. The Blue Star Line has received cabled advice that its motor-ship Tuscan Star, which left Auckland on December 8 for London via the Panama Canal, reached Balboa on Tbursdaj- morning. RANGITANE’S ALL WELL. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received a wireless message from its motor-liner Rangitane, which left YVellington on December 21 for London, via the Panama Canal, reporting that she lias experienced very good weather—all well on board. ROTORUA LEAVES BALBOA. Cabled advice has been received bv the New Zealand Shipping Company that its liner Rotorua, en route from London ro Suva. YVellington. Port Chalmers, Lyttelton, Timaru and Nelson, cleared Balboa on Wednesday. She is due here on January 22. KENT DUE TO-DAY. To continue her Homeward loading the Federal steamer Kent is due at Wellington about 11 a.tu. to-day from New Plymouth, and will berth at the King’s Wharf. She is to leave bore again on January 3 for Gisborne and Auckland to till up, and is scheduled to clear the northern port finally on January 8 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow, via the Panama Canal. PAKEHA IN BALLAST. Cabled advice has been received by the Shaw, Savill Company that the Pakeha left London on December 22 in ballast for New Zealand via the Cape of Good Hope and Sydney. She is due in New Zealand on February 11 to load Homeward. KARAMEA LOADING. The Shaw. Savill motor-ship Karamea, which reached Bluff on Thursday morning from Gladstone to commence her Homeward -loading, was to have left there again last night for Wellington. She is due here to-morrow morning and will leave again on January 13 for Pieton. Gisborne, Waikokopu and Napier to fill up, and is scheduled to clear the last-named port finally on January 27 for London via the Panama Canal. MAMARI AT LYTTELTON. From London via Kingston and the Panama Canal, the Shaw, Savill steamer Mamari reached Lyttelton last night. She will later complete discharge at Port Chalmers. Bluff and Napier. The Mamari brings the second shipment of this season's Jamaican oranges to New Zealand. MATAROA COMPLETING. The Shaw, Savill liner. Trials hare been run by the passenger motor-liner Bloemfontein, built at Amsterdam by the Nederlgndsche ■ Scheepsbouw Mij. for account of the Holland-Africa Line (Y’oreentgde Nederiandsche Scheep-vaart-Mij.), The Hague. It will be remembered that the vessel was launched in July last by General Herzog. Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa, by means of special wireless communication from Pretoria. She is built on the Maierforni principle, with main dimensions 46rttt. length. 60tt. breadth and 3Sft. 6in. moulded depth, and carries about 90 passengers, the cargocarrying capacity being 10.360 tons dw. Approximately 40.000 cubic feet of space is refrigerated for the carriage of perishable goods. Propulsion is by two double-acting two-stroke airless-injection Stork-Hessel-nlan Diesels, each developing a normal output of 4150 i.h.p. at 122 r.p.m. and a maximum of 4600 i.h.p. at 130 revolutions. The auxiliaries comprise four five-cylinder four-stroke Stork-Hesselman Diesels of 249 i.p.h. each. ’ WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
