The presence of several large sharks cruising about off the foreshore at Napier on a recent morning caused considerable excitement among the crowds attending the opening of the Diamond Jubilee Carnival, especially when a rifleman attempted to shoot ..the monsters. The many interested spectators on the beach were able to discern the sinister dorsal fin protruding for some distance from the surface of the water, and with this as his target the marksman' fired several shots, but apparently none of them found its mark. With the ehoppy waters caused by the westerly wind that was Mowing at the time, the sharks eventually disappeared.
