DROP IN REVENUE

COMMONWEALTH CUSTOMS RETURNS (Rec. March 1, 11.30 p.m.) Canberra, March 1. The revenue returned for the eight months of the current year show a drop in Customs revenue of £900,000 compared with the previous corresponding period. The Minister of Trade, Mr. E. C. Pratten, attributes this falling ofl chiefly to tile bad season. He points out that chiefly luxury lines are affected, and claims that this affords convincing evidence that the policy of protection in Australia is gradually becoming more and more effective.
