BRITAIN AND SOVIET
QUESTION OF RECOGNITION Rugby, February 29.. The Foreign Secretary was asked in the House of Commons whether, in view of the banishment ot Zinovieff and the left wing element from the Government of Russia, the British Government would consider the question of the recognition of the Soviet Government. Sir Austen Chamberlain said that nothing had occurred since that incident to justify the British Government in considering a resumption of diplomatic relations. Sir Austen was asked if he had seen a speech by M. Rykov saying that the Russian Government were prepared to give the .guarantees required by the British Government regarding interference in British affairs. He replied that he had not, but if the Soviet wished to give assurances of the kind, they could do so in the proper manner through diplomatic channels, and those assurances would be considered. —British Official Wireless.
