EIGHT-ROOMED HOUSE LOST. By TblegbapS.—Fbess association Taumarunui, March 1. Late yesterday afternoon an eightroomed house near Kakahi, owned and occupied by Air. W. E. Stevens, was totally destroyed by fire. The occupiers lost everything. The insurances are not available. empty house destroyed. Pahiatua, March 1. Fire destroyed a five-roomed house, also a washhouse, on Rock Road, owned by a Konini settler. Air. A. Henisy. The house was unoccupied for some time. The insurances are £575 in the Liverpool and London, and Globe office. HEAVY LOSS OF SHEEP ON EAST COAST. By Telegraph.—Press association Gisborne, Alarch 1. The fires in the Hicks Bay district, which reached within three miles of the township, have subsided, and the settlers have returned to their homes. The estimate that over 1000 sheep were destroyed has been confirmed. TIMBER MILLS BURNT Sydney, Alarch 1. A fire, following an explosion, destroyed the timber mills of the Tanner, Middleton Company, at Burwood Road. Concord. The damage is estimated to exceed £lOO,OOO. The fire was one of the most spectacular seen in Sydney for a long time. Damage estimated at £12,000 was caused by a fire which destroyed Lee’s general 'store and Coulston’s motor garage at Narroinine.
