CITY COUNCIL

The council decided: That medical certificates similar to I those required under the motor-omnibus regulations be furnished by all new new | applicants for licenses to drive vehicles for public hire. That a request for motor-cars to be ' prohibited from parking in Panama and Brandon Streets be not acceded to. That an application from a company 1 for permission to erect an electric advcr- ■ tising sign on Mt. Victoria ve not ap- . proved. Authority was given fo the Milk Committee to purchase 300 10-gallon cans. It wa s decided that prize money , amounting to -ClO6 10s. 3d. ne paid in connection with No. 13 milk roundsmen’s competition. Crawford Green. i Hollowing a recommendation of the Reserves Committee, the council decided ■ that a deputation wait upon the Prime Minister to urge that the Government ; permit iho council to acquire an area 1 of about half an acre at Crawford Green, , Miramar, as a frontage to the recreation reserve. Councillor M.eKeen said they had made no provision for building, and there was no convenience or dressing shod. A large number of boys and girls used the ground, and he thought the committee ' should consider placing a sum on the estimates t-, make the necessary provision. Councillor B. G. H. Burn agreed to make some provision, but said that the committee < ould not for want of finance 1 do all that it would like to do in that direction. L'hey had tried to get the Government to give or sell them this piece of ground, and the step proposed was the only course open. The Mayor undertook to see the Prime Minister on the matter.
