FARMING INTERESTS SHEARERS’ AWARD COOK’S WAGES IN DISPUTE. I By Telegraph.- press association. Gisborne, .March 1. An application Io interpret the shearers’ award in regard to the wages of cooks was made before Mr. E. C. Lcvvey, S.M., by the East Coast Shearers’ Union in an action against W. 1). Lysnar, M.P. The facts were not in dispute. Mr. Lysnar for twenty years had employed only one cook for shearers. This year two cooks appeared on the scene. Mr. Lysnar offered one woman £4 a week. This was refused. There were only eight shearers working at the time, and it was contended that it was absurd to say that one cook could not cook for more than twelve men. The Magistrate held that more than £4 a week should have been paid, but as the union had failed to carry out the preliminaries the information would be dismissed.
