MALADMINISTRATION IN CHICAGO

CHURCH FEDERATION’S INDICTMENT SERIOUS CHARGES AGAINST CITY OFFICIALS Chicago, February 28. As a protest against alleged city maladministration, the Church Federation has appointed March 7 as a day of public prayer. The federation adopted a resolution declaring the conditions in Chicago such that the ballot box was wantonly violated; that life and property were in a large measure unsafe; that the homes of citizens were menaced by bombs; that crime and graft and corruption were besmirching the city’s good name. Moreover, the evidence seemed clear that there was a partnership between criminals and some officials, manifest by hundreds of gambling joints and vice dens openly tolerated by negligent officers.—Sydney "Sun.”
