"A SLIGHT DECREASE A slight decrease in the Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington in February is shown when the figures are compared with those of the corresponding month last year. 'I he figures are as follow:
CHRISTCHURCH FIGURES. By Telegraph.—Press association. Christchurch, February 29. Customs duties ami beer duty collected in Christchurch last month amounted to £68,187, and in February, 1927, £82,252, a decrease of £14,065. Other taxes were collected as follows:— Beer dutv: February, 1928, .£’5737; February; 1927, £7409; decrease, £1673. Motor spirit tax: February, 1928, £lOOl. Tire tax; February. 11)28, .£1567;. January, 1928, £3059. Meat export levy: February, 1928, £524; February, 1927, £586. DECREASE AT DUNEDIN. ’ Dunedin, February 29. Compared with February of last year, a slight decrease is shown in customs revenue collected at Dunedin during the past month. Beer dutv. however, shows an increase of XT 14. During Fcbruaiy. 1927. customs revenue amounted to £59.540, and beer duty to .£19.498. The figures for this month were .£59,419. and £19,942 18s. 4d. respectively. DUNEDIN FIGURES. By Telegraph.—Press association Dunedin, February 29. Births and marriages registered in Dunedin during February showed a decrease in each case compared with the figures for February last year, an increase being recorded in the number of deaths. Following are the figures for this month, those for February, 19-27 being given in parenthesesßirths, 79 (137) ; marriages, 51 (73) ; deaths, 71 (57).
