MASTER PLUMBERS
ANNUAL CONFERENCE The annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Master Plumpers was continued at the Employers Federation Rooms yesterday. The following remit was moved by Mr. J. E. Gray 'Auckland): ‘ That representations be made to the Plumbers’ beard to arrange as far as possible fur assistants at examinations to be chosen from fifth and sixth year apprentices/ The remit was seconded by Mr. 1 1 . V. Hoffman (Auckland), and carried. The question of inter!erence tn plumbing business by the Government and local bodies was brought up by Mr. R. J. Bell (Wanganui). His union, he said, was very disturbed at the position in Wanganui, and be referred to tho Wanganui Council plumbers being employed on drainage work. Mr. W. Cross (Auckland) said that tlie printing trade was taking action in the matter. , , , Mr W A. Jenkins (Dunedin) stated that’in Dunedin the council’s departments interfered by undertaking plumber.i’ work, while Government Departments, such as the Public Works Department, carried out work on Government buildings that should be done Ly members of the trade Mr. C.W. Ohorn (Christchurch) moved: “That each local association be recommended to work ouibtly in the direction of influencing members ef local bodies, power boards, and other public, bodies against permitting plumbing wori; to bo carried out other than by members of the plumbing trade.” ~ v> n This was seconded by Mr. G. 1. waxier (Invercargill!, and carried.
