FORESTRY OFFICER
TO BE APPOINTED BY WATER BOARD At the meeting of the Wellington City and Suburban vVater Board yesterday it was decided that a forestry officer be appointed to control the water catchment areas at a salary of £750 a year. It was stated that a good man could not be secured under that salary. Mr. R. Semple thought that as the board’s revenue to be only amounted to £3OOO a year, they might commence the office at a lecser salary, but his advice was not heeded. It was decided that the new officer should be under the city engineer, in whom was vested tbe control ot the waterworks and catchment areas attaching thereto. In connection with the Akatarawa reserve the chairman stated that when recently it was reported that a serious fire was raging on the reserve, he, after consulting with the Director of Parks, engaged a good man at £6 a week to look after the piece for a month. The board approved the action.
