BENEFIT SPORTS MEETING
The rain which fell during tho past few days has had a beneficial effect on the Basin Reserve track, and fast, exciting sport should lie witnessed at the special night to be held to-night. In the star attraction—a pursuit race between Standen-Grav and Oakley-Cars-well—a thrilling contest is anticipated. The Australians have had more experience of pursuit racing, but. the local riders are more experienced in grasstrack riding, and this should counterbalance the Australian superiority. Another good race is promised in the one mile scratch cvcle race, in which all. the local stars will compete, in addition to tho Australian duo, Fleming. Allan, Veitch, Cunningham, and Eastwood, all "52sec.” or better for the 410 yards, have been selected to take part in a 440 yards’, scratch invitation race.. In the Indies section competition will also lie keen. The first event commences at 8 p.m. sharp. __________
