HEIRS TO SULTAN’S MILLIONS
CLAIM AGAINST BRITISH GOVERNMENT Constantinople, February 26. Dismally failing to secure compensation from the Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian, and Serbian Governments for property allegedly belonging to the late Turkish Sultan, Abdul Hamid, the Turkish princesses and princes, his joint heirs, are making a final bid to secure a verdict by suing the British Government before an Anglo-Turkish tribunal, claiming the restitution of 122 properties at Bagdad, Cyprus, and the oilfields of Mosol, involving millions. It is recalled that Abdul Hamid during his thirty years’ reign accumulated a fortune of eight millions sterling, acquiring propertv throughout the Turkish Empire, chiefly by questionable methods, although he generally registered the title to them. The claims date to the time of the Balkan wars.
