VICE-REGAL TOUR

GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN THE SOUTH Dominion Special Service. Nelson, February 21. The Governor-General and Lady bergusson left Nelson for Motueka this morning and arrived at the War Memorial at 'll o’clock. There was a large assemblage of citizens, Girl Guides, Cadets, Territorials, returned soldiers, pioneers, and children waiting to see Their Excellencies. The Governor-Gen-eral was met bv the Mayor and councillors and introduced to a number of prominent citizens and their wives. Lady Fergusson was then presented witli a bouquet of flowers. An address of welcome was delivered bv the Mavor. In the course of his reply, Sir Charles Fergusson spoke specially to each section of the assemblage. He was particularly attentive to the children, and at the conclusion of his remarks shook hands with all the pio-

ncers. Later the party, accompanied by prominent citizens, proceeded to Riwaka. The first stop was made at Mr. ■ W. Owen’s kilns, where tobacco was in the drying process. Mr. W. E- Rowi ling’s packing shed, where Cox’s Orange apples were being got ready for the Old Country, was visited. The orchard was also inspected and the party expressed themselves much interested. Mr. P. Bates’s Hone Garden, where picking was in full progress, was inspected and the drying process demonstrated. The Vice-Regal party returned to Motueka for lunch at 1.40 p.m. At the conclusion of the luncheon, the Gover-nor-General was present at a Masonic ceremony, and while that was in progress the ladies of the party visited the Wakarewa Home. The Vice-Regal visitors partook of afternoon tea before leaving for Nelson. This evening His Excellency attends a Masonic function and to-morrow will visit Kirkpatrick Masonic Institute, where he will be entertained at afternoon tea bv the Mayor and councillors
