Although he was blissfully unconscious of the fact at the time, a Blenheim resident at one stage in a swim he was enjoying during last week-end. from the main beach at Rarangi (White s Bay) was in alarming proximity to a shark of apparently considerable proportions (says the “Marlborough Express ’). A few minutes after he had left the water his attention was attracted by an object moving along parallel to the beach and just beyond the line of breakers. He easily identified the object as the dorsal fin of a shark —and a large one at that, judging by the size of the exposed portion of the fin. When he returned to his car, where his wile was preparing afternoon tea, he mentioned having seen a shark's fin. “What was it like?" he was asked. After renderin'’ a faithful description, the bather sustained something of a , shock when his companion remarked: “Why, I saw a thing like that two or three feet away from you when you were in the water, but I didn’t say anything about it, as J thought it was a bit of kelp or something!" It may be mentioned that sharks are not often reported near the bathing beaches in Cloudy Bay. One of the most well-arranged caravans for touring purposes was parked at the Belt Road camp recently (says the “Taranaki News”). It resembles, a combination of a ship’s galley and cabin on wheels. Sleeping accommodation was provided for three persons in comfortable bunks, while the “living" quarters contained such . comforts and conveniences as a dining table, seats, and a sink with water laid on. Members of the Tourist and Expansion League and of the Taranaki Automobile Association, who were shown through the caravan by its owners, were of opinion that it was one of the best designed vehicles for touring purposes that had ever visited New Plymouth.
