A peculiar fish was landed at Lyttelton recently by one of the trawlers (savs an exchange). It was similar to an electric ray. only much larger. 'lhree of lhe ship’s crow could not handle it. amt it must have weighed, roughly, about 5 cwt It measured about 4tt. Gin. in length bv sft. in width, and its tail was just 3ft.' long. The fish was peculiar in that its tail was similar to that or a stingray, but instead o' having a long tail it was short, and had onlv one spike instead of two. In addition the tail was closely spiked. The master of the trawler stated that he had not previously seen a similar fish, hut another fisherman. on the fish being described, said be had seen something that resembled it.
