WELLINGTON ACTIVITIES The annual report of the Young Men’s Christian Association of Wellington for the year ended December 31 states that particularly good results were obtained through the association's contact with boys in the Health and Gymnastic Training Departments. No fewer than 257 boys were enrolled in'systematic health training. There was an enrolment of 100 boys in two Scout troops. Through the “Big Brother” Movement Association members became sponsors for 65 delinquent boys released from the courts. During the year the association maintained its reputation as specialist in the field of gymnastic and health training. There was a total enrolment of 607 in 15 different classes, including 107 men, 119 women, 257 boys, and 124 girls. Extension classes were successfully carried out at Kilbirnie, Tetone, and Khandallah.

The membership roll disclosed the following ' position:—Seniors 394, younger men 91, sustaining 59, boys 202; total, 746. In addition there were 95 on the regular donors list, and 243 young women and girls in the gymnasium.

After meeting ‘several extra heavy commitments during the year, and allowing for all charges, including depreciation, the association closed its books with an excess of expenditure over income of £199. The additional loss of £IJ 0 in the Donbank account is accounted for by the reduced patronage during the year. “But the need for Donbank still exists,” adds the report. “The comparatively low tariff charged even if the house were full leaves only a very slender margin for profit, and the reduction in the number of residents very quickly turns that profit into a loss.” During the vear the sum of £lll was paid off the mortgage on the Willis Street property and £5OO off Donbank. The association maintained its policy of keeping the fees of membership within the reach of every young man. and at the same time making the work more and more self-supporting. During the vear the sum of £625 was received bv wav o f donations and £538 for membership, the aggregate of this being in excess of the previous year.
