AUSTRALIAN LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIPS MISS MILLER WINS 440 YARDS INVITATION HANDICAP TO MISS STOCKLEY Sydney, February 25. At the swimming' carnival the 440 yards’ ladies’ championship of Australia resulted: Miss K. Miller (New Zealand), 1 (time, Cmin. 13 3-ssec.); Miss Davey (New South Wales), 2 (time, Gmin. 13 4-ssec.); Miss B. Law (New South Wales), 3. Miss Miller and Miss Davey raced level for two laps, then Miss Davey led by a length till tho tenth lap, when Miss Miller came away with a burst in the last lap, and won an exciting race by a touch. ‘rhe Invitation Handicap, 100 yards, was won by Miss E. Stockley (New Zear 'and), in Imin. 7 4-ssec.; Miss K. Miller, 2: and Miss Davey. 3. Tn the 100 Yards’ Junior Championship of Australia, Miss B. Law (New South Wales) was first. Timo, Imin. 3-ssee. Miss B. Mealing (New South Wales) was second, and Miss B. Foreham (Victoria) third. BACKSTROKE RECORD Brisbane, February 25. Boast, (bo Australian backstroke swimming champion, created a new Australian record, covering a hundred yards in 75 3-ssec. He bent the Gorman, Froelich, by two and a half yards, DONBANK CARNIVAL. The following are the. results of the Donbank swimming carnival held at the Tepid Baths last night:— 100 Yards Breaststroke Handicap.— Eade, 1; Robinson, 2; Hanson, 3. Time, Imin. SGsec. 100 Yards Handicap.—Robinson, 1; Eade, 2. Time. Imin. 24sec. 33 1-3 Yards Backstroke. —Purdy, 1; Reid, 2; Trathcn, 3. Time, 32sec. 33 1-3 Yards Dash Handicap.—Robinson, 1; S. Reid, 2; Hanson, 3. Time, 21sec. 33 1-3 Yards (Beginners).—Hartley, 1; Shaw, 2. Time, 29sec. Dive—Eade, 1; Pointon and Hanson, Plunge.—Purdy, 1: Wilson, 2. Cigarette Race.—Hanson, 1; Pendray, 2. Time, 36sec. 66 2-3 Yards Consolation Race.—Wilson, 1; Frederickson, 2; Shaw, 3. COMMEMORATION CUP. The first distance (220 yards), for the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club’s Commemoration Cup, was held at Te Aro Baths, resulting ns follows: —L. Dawkins (30sec.), 1 ; IL Shannon (20seeJ, 2: J. Blakeley (10sec.). 3. Time, 2min. 59 2-sscc. There were 12 starters. The next distance (440 yards) will be swum at Te Aro Baths at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
