TO-DAY’S WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, February 24, 4 p.m. A shallow cyclone is centred over the North Island and a weak anti-cyclone over the south Tasman Sea. The forecast is for south to east winds, fresh to strong on the East Coast between Banks Peninsula and East Cape and in Cook Strait, moderate elsewhere. Rough seas in Cook Strait and between Lyttelton and East Cape; light to moderate southeasterly to north-easterly winds and smooth to moderate seas in the Tasman Sea. Weather fine on the West Coast of the South Island and in Otago: otherwise cold and cloudy to overcast, and unsettled, with further rain, heavy in parts of the eastern districts of the North Island, but chiefly light, misty rain; elsewhere improving from the southwards, especially in districts with a westerly aspect.
