VIVIAN STREET BAPTIST CHURCH
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. Tho jubilee celebrations of the Vivian Street. Baptist Church were continued on Thursday night, when the .Mayor (.Mr. G. A. Troup) addressed a largeaudienco in the church. Rev. I'. E. Harry presided, and with him on the platform were Revs. J. J. North (principal of tho Baptist. College), C. lialleston, and W. S. Rollings, and .Mr. A. lloby. Among those present were tho Mayoress (Mrs. Troup), Rev. Dr. Kennedy Elliott, and Revs. A. 11. Collins and 11. E. Edridge. Apologies for absence were received from Revs. E. R. Weeks, W. Shirer, and IL Stewards, and Rev. Dr. Gibb, and greetings were read from the Wellington Ministers' Association, Congregational churches, and from various churches throughout tho Dominion, as well as from ex-ministers and ex-mem-bers of the church. Rev. F. E. Harry said that about. 500(1 sermons had been preached in the church during its lifetime, and they had had a succession of good preachers. People to-day were looking for a cool and comfortable religion. They looked on and they criticised, but there, never had been any good done for God without enthusiasm. This was the time, ho said, when we should review the past and renew our allegiance to God. Ho wished that we could get back to the enthusiasm of the pioneers. Tho Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) said that ho deemed it a great privilege to take part in the celebrations, and he extended to tho church, as Mayor, tho congratulations of tho city on having reached its jubilee. Tho men who started the church were men of faith who, once having taken up a thing, saw it through to tho end. In conclusion, Mr. Troup hoped the church would do even greater filings in the future than if had in the past. He stressed the good inlluem-e of the churches on city life and city government. Rev. J. .1. North said the Church of God was not going to grow old because if belonged to eternity. During the evening solos 'veto sung bv Misses N. Gray and V. Nicol and Air. H. Pargetler.
