FURTHER RAIN EXPECTED BY Telegraph.— PßESS association. Copyright. Sydney, February 23. Floods in the Bogan River are causing great anxiety at Nyngan. News has been received of a great rise in the upper reaches, which is travelling at eight miles an hour. Unless the flood waters near Nyngan fall considerably, this drift, it is” feared, will overwhelm the town. The weather is very muggy, and further rain is expected. Station owners and small settlers on the banks of the Bogan have fared badly. In many cases the settlers are imprisoned in their homes, with lands for miles covered with muddy water. The w’ater police are endeavouring to carry supplies of food to the marooned settlers. Owing to a strong current their progress is very slow. The river, usually ninety feet wide, now ranges in width from two to ten miles. Further heavy rains have occurred in the Riverina district, causing several washaways. Part of Junee is again under water, and some of the surrounding country- is inundated to a depth of txvo feet. ’ Gantnain also is experiencing a recurrence of floods, which last week caused damage amounting to many thousands of pounds. A number of business places and residences are flooded. Coolamon. and Wagga are also affected.
