ANNUAL MEETING RECORD IN CABLE SERVICE At the annual meeting of the Press Association, the following were present:—Mr. W. C. Page (Hawera “Star”), Messrs. T. L. Mills (Feilding "Star”), F. M. Petterd (Auckland “Sun”), W. J. Blundell ("Evening Post”), E. J. Brown (“M airarapa Age”), W. 11. Bissett (“Southland Times”), T. H. Evieson (Christehurcli “Sun”). The report showed the cable service had attained a record during the past year, the number of words supplied being 951,681. This included special reports of the cricket team at Home and the Samoan Commission. Duplication of the Pacific cable had greatly improved transmission by that route. Aluch use had been made ot the beam wireless system by cable agencies, but messages by it did not come direct to New Zealand. For nearly’ a year past the association had distributed the British Official Wireless budget to such papers as desired to publish it, and the regular cable service was thus to some extent supplemented. The association had the option of extending its agreement with the cable associations for two years, and this right would be exercised. Air. Bradley, manager at Sydney, had resigned, and Air. F. 11. Alorgnn, of i the head office, had been appointed in his place. The number of subscribers to the association was stated as 6!) The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the chairman, Air. Leys, delivered an address on the year’s bnsi- | ness, which was ordered to be printed ] and circulated among members. The retiring directors. Sir George Fenwick and Mr. C. S. Smith, were re-elected. . Rotorua was selected as the next place of meeting.
