TO-DAY’S WEATHER FORECAST
♦ Meteorological Office, Wellington, February 23, 4 p.m. A shallow depression is over New Zealand. A rather intense anticyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea. The forecast is for northerly winds at first north of Cape Farewell and Kaikoura, southerlies elsewhere, and gradually becoming general. Fresh to strong in Cook Strait and on parts of the East Coast, moderate elsewhere. Seas generally smooth to moderate at first, but becoming rough in Cook Strait and on parts of the East Coast. Weather cloudy to overcast generally. Showers over most of the South Island, and later scattered over the North Island. Cooler temperatures soon.
