GOODWILL OF THE STATE by Telegraph.—press association. Hamilton, Februarv 23. The annual conference of the New ZeaInad branch of the. British Medical Association is proceeding. •It the annual meeting of the New Zealand Medical Association Society, Dr. F. N. Harvey, of Napier, and Drs. C. F. Pattie and W. Young, ol Wellington, were re-elected directors. A substantial profit was shown on the year's working, the. credit balance being J 112.700. ■ A. civic reception to the delegates at the Medico) Conference was tendered 111 the Town Hall last night, the Mavor extending tho welcome. On behalf of Hie Government, the. Hon. J. A. Young (Mm ister of Health) welcomed the visitors, mentioning especially Mr- Victor Bonney, of London The Government and Health Department, lie said, would watch with very great interest the progress of the conference. r riie cordial wishes of the parent body, the British Medical Association, were conveyed to the delegates by Mr. ney. "The English medical profession.’ bo* said, “is by far superior as a whole to the medical nrofession m any other countrv. There are, of course, loaders of medicine in many countries, but it is the average standard that counts,. So long as we retain our characteristics as a pettplo we shall still occupy that position.” He paid a .high compliment to the medical profession of New Zealand. He had had only twelve hours’ nconaintance with tlie profession medically but he was verv much impressed bv the standard of the papers he had hoard rend, and had come tn tho conclusion that tho standard here was nt least as high ns that at TTonte, whore, as he said.' the average was superior to any country in the world.
