« WELLIGTON TELEGRAPH OPERATORS. Tho annual picnic of the Wellington Telegraph Operators was held at Rona Hay under ideal circumstances. There was an attendance of about 300. including Mr. G. McNamara (Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department). The outing was quite a success, and was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody present. Following are results of sports events held during the at ternoonOffice championship: A. Williams, 1; L Strange, 2; E. Beer, 3. Officers over 35 years of age: A. O. Keating. 1; 11. W. Allan, C. White, 3. Married ladies’ race: Mrs. Muir. 1: Mrs. Buckman. 2; Mrs. Snadon, 3. Visitors' race: C. H. Allen, 1; L. Milnes. 2: W. D. Allen. 3. Single ladies' race: Miss Hands. 1; Miss Docll. 2; Miss Clarke. 3. Dual relay race: Miss J. Hands and K. White. Challenge relay race: Winning team.—Messrs. Williams. Buckman. Rivers and Sissons. Married men's race: E. Beer, 1; E. Mitchell. 2. Single men’s race: W. McDonald. 1; T. Jamieson, 2; D. McNab. 3 Distributors' race: L. Strange, 1; J. Jamieson, 2; W. J. Anderson. 3. Several novelty races and events for children were keenly contested also.
