A DESERT RAID

R.A.F. OFFICER KILLED (Rec. February 22, 7.5 p.m.) Basra, February 21. During the Air Force’s effective bombing pursuit of the Wahabi raiders under Ibm Akwan, who attacked Kaweit on January 30, Flying-Officer Rolf Jackson was fatally shot down at Ur of the Chaldees. The aeroplane was burnt. The mechanic is reported to have been captured. Two thousand of Akwan’s warriors had crossed the Iraq border and attacked a large Jowarin encampment on January 20. Aa pitched battle resulted, and eighty were killed and two hundred wounded of Akwan’s force. The Jowarin casualties were heavier, and they lost all their flocks and herds.— A.P.A. and “Sun.”
