JANUARY PORT STATISTICS INCREASE IN EXPORTS The shipping and cargo statistics for January, presented at last night's meeting of the Harbour Board, showed that the total net registered tonnage of the trading vessels which arrived at Wellington during the month was 319,216 tons, as against 332,227 tons for January, 1927. Oversea vessels departing for Great Britain totalled 18,881 net tons, and for other oversea ports 115,834 tons, a total of 134,715 tons, compared with 147,049 tons during January, 1927. The total quantity of cargo, inwards, outwards, and transhipments, handled during the month was 161,314 tons, compared with 129,556 tons in January, 1927. Details of the cargo handled during the months show considerable increases in exports and in bulk oils, and afford the following comparison with January, 1927:—
