FATHER’S CLAIM
MONEY ADVANCED TO SON. A claim for £424 2s. sd. against the estate of his son, Hector Bernard Rankin, made by John Alexander Rankin, of Wellington, was heard by Mr. Justice MacGregor in the Supreme Court yesterday. Hector Bernard Rankin died in October, 1926, and both before and after his death, plaintiff said, he had advanced money to his son for various purposes. The sums set forth were £lO7 155., £6B 4s. 9d„ and £353 18s. fid. Against these sums he had received payments of only £92, £l5 75., and £8 10s. For Joliu Alexander Rankin Mi. J. Crombie appeared, and the Public Trustee, as administrator of Hector Bernard Rankin, was represented by Mr. P. B. Broad.
His Honour gave judgment for plaintiff for £lBO, disallowing the principal item of the claim, which, it was said, was to pay off a mortgage to a building society, because the shares were in the son’s name.
