ENGINEERS ENTERTAINED
HARBOUR WORKS INSPECTED. The - delegates attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers were yesterday afternoon the guests of the Wellington Harbour Board and made a tour of the harbour in the steamer Duchess. The large party, which included many ladies, proceeded'from Queen’s Wharf, and after witnessing a spectacular display of the salvage and fire-fighting appliances of the tug Toia, landed on Pipitea Wharf. The wharf and cargo shed were inspected, as were also the floating crane Hikitia, the concrete pile-making works, and the Thorndon breaswork under construction. The Duchess then steamed along the Thermion sea-wall, where the reclamation works were viewed witli much interest, and then proceeded to Miramar, afternoon tea being served on the run across to Evans Bay. The Burnham and Miramar wharves, with their bulk oil handling appliances, were inspected, and a pleasant run round Point Halswell to the harbour entrance and back to Queen’s Wharf completed a very enjoyable and interesting outing.
