CENTRAL DEPOT AT TBENTHAM. The annual camp of the Central Depot, N. was held at Trentham from February 4 to February 11. with Major T F. Corkill. M.C.. in command, assisted by Major G. A. Gibbs. Lieutenant J. H. Beaumont. Captain ,h. Dennis/chaplain). Staff Sergeant-Major C. H. Eidman, Company Sergeant-Major H. R.. Harris, and Company Quartermaster-Sergeant h. Vf. Bauckham. , „ r , On Monday the General Officer Commanding New Zealand forces. MajorGeneral B. Young, and Colonels W. L. 11. Burgess and It- H. Whyte inspected the camp and expressed approval at the manner and general turnout of the company. The weather was most favourable, and cave every opportunity of fulfilling tho required syllabus of trainin'? in all branches of medical corps work, and tnc efficiency of tho men was shown on Thursday when the annual competition for the Kemp Cup was held. Points had been allotted throughout the week for cleanliness and neatness of huts, and these, along with those won at the drill and sports competitions, were totalled, and No. 2 Section, under the command of Sergeant R. S. Luke, were the victors, with a margin of <s> points ia 600. . „ , , , . i On Friday the annual field day took place, when a typical main dressing station (under the command' of Major G. A. Gibbs and Sergeant ET. Trvmg) was erected' in tho vicinity of the camp grounds. Au advanced dressing station (under the command of Lieutenant J. H. Beaumont and Sergeant V. N. Harris) was formed under the slopes of the hills to the south-east of Heretaunga. and bearer relay posts and regimental aid posts were placed at lengthy distances between the advance dressing station and the battle front, which was supposed to be at the time at tho head of the Taita Gorge. These were established under the direction of Major T. F. Oorkili. and the whole was inspected during the day by Lieu-tenant-Colonel R. S. Smythe. D. 5.0., P.S.C.. who was also pleased with the high standard attained in every branch., Later in the. afternoon the Officer Commanding tho depot presented the Kemp Cup to the winning section and medals for best all round work to Sergeant O. W. 8. Smith, privates L. E. Ridler, and A. Hodgson. In the evening an at home was held in the Y.M.C.A. building through the co-operation of Mr. F. Chappell, resident secretary, and dancing was indulged in along with various vocal and instrumental items, which wore much appreciated. The camp broke on the the Saturday morning.
