For some years now a peculiar anomaly has persisted in connection with the miming of Marlborough’s secondary school which is termed "College” by everybody but the Education Department, which continues to refer to it as “Marlborough High School.” Recently the Board of Governors decided to have its own cheque forms printed with the name "Marlborough College Board” insi riled thereon, but ns cheques from the Department continued to come payable to the "High School Board.” a technical obstacle has been created in connection with the banking (states the "Express”). It was reported to the meeting of the College Board that efforts were being made to induce the Department to acknowledge the change in name, but so far no success had been achieved.

The hot weather has not agreed with the bitumen surface of the North Road (says the "Southland Times”). On a section of the road beyond the Waikiwi Church a heavy vehicle with a wide tire has lifted the surface for a mile, leaving a clear impression of the tire where the bitumen has lifted. The tracks show that the driver did his best to get on to the side of the road when he realised how soft the bitumen surface was.
