JOINT" MEETING IN BRITAIN AND united states EXCELLENT RESULTS ACHIEVED (Rec. February 17, 7.20 p.m.) London, February 16. Using a trans-Atlantic wireless telephone and twelve hundred miles of land lines, the British Institution of Electrical Engineers and the American Institute held a joint meeting in London and New York. The Britishers transmitted from Rugby and received at Cupar, Scotland, while the Americans used Long Island and Houlton, Maine. Loudspeakers amplified the incoming messages. Firstly, greetings were exchanged. The American president, Air. Bancroft Gherardi, requested the British president. Mr. 'Page, as head of the senior institution, to take the chair. Mr. Page, in a speech of acknowledgment, invited Mr. Gherardi to address the joint meeting. A number of speeches at both ends followed. General Carter, an American, moved a resolution of satisfaction that wireless had enabled the holding of the joint meeting. Sir Oliver Lodge seconded from London, and the chairman put the motion, which was carried by acclamation. The American speeches and applause were heard with perfect ease in London, also by a large audience gathered in the hall adjoining the meeting room, whither the messages were relayed. Sir Oliver Ledge said the results were excellent. They were not worried by atmospherics,—A.P.A. and f'Sun,"
