SAWMILL DESTROYED
BUSH FIRE OUT OF CONTROL BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS association. Hamilton, February 17. A bush fire, which started in the vicinity of the Raglan Sawmilling Company’s mill at Hutiwai, got out of control yesterday in spite of the desperate efforts of the employees. It destroyed the mill and a quantity of sawn timber, as well as two dwellings, occupied by two of the partners, Messrs. W. Munro and J. Russell. The mil! was situated near’the West Coast, about four miles from South Raglan. It was only a small enterprise worked by eight men, and the dwellings were not pretentious structures. The total damage is estimated at £7OO, including £2OO worth of sawn timber. Last night the fire died down considerably, but attacked the standing bush on the property of M. F. Andrews, whose house was threatened. The need for protection against fire loss is obvious. Consult the Mercantile and General Insurance Company Ltd., Panama Street, Wellington.— Advt. .
