BRITISH POSTAL SYSTEM
INCAUTIOUS UTTERANCE BY VISCOUNT WOLMER CRYPTIC COMMENT BY MR. BALDWIN By Telegbaph.—Press Association. Copyright. (Rec. February 15, 7.50 p.m.) London, February 14. Asked whether he approved, or repudiated, the speech in which Viscount Wolmer, Assistant-Postmaster-General, characterised the postal system as pure socialism, and suggested that it would be more efficient and economical if run by private enterprise, Mr. Baldwin replied cryptically that “When Viscount Wolmer attained years of discretion he would probably speak with that caution which characterists every’ one of our utterances.” (Laughter.) Members of the House in the lobby, commenting on the fact that Viscount Wolmer is 40 years of age, were divided whether the reply was a snub or humour, and there is speculation regarding the prospects of his resignation when it was disclosed that he "was starting immediately on a long sea voyage on medical advice.—.AP.A. and “Sun.”
