WAIRARAPA FLEECE COMPETITION
MATTHEWS CUP WON BY A. H. FALLOON Dominion Special Service. Alasterton, February 13. The winner of the recently donated Alfred Matthews Memorial Cup for the annual fleece competition of the Wairarapa branch of the Farmers’ Union is announced as A. H. Falloon,. of Wangaehu, Masterton, who exhibited what was adjudged the best Romney fleece. Eightv fleeces in five classes were exhibited. The judges (Alessrs. W. Perry and R. J. Gillon) described the general exhibit as being of outstanding quality, while the champion fleece entirely fulfilled the condition laid down, namely, that it should be a fleece of predominating Romney cross type. The results of the judging are as follow: — CLASS 36 AND UNDER.
Special prizes were awarded as follow :— Alfred Matthews’s Alemorial Challenge Cup: A. H. Falloon (Wangaeliu). Heaviest fleece: J. S. Holmes (Alatahiwi), 18'b. Soz. Best fleece from Tinui district: I. D. Balfour.. Best fleece from Eketahuna district: Not allotted The fleeces will be on exhibition at the Alasterton A. and P. Show to-mor-row and on Wednesday, when the judges, in conjunction with Air. J. Cook (Government wool instructor) and Air. C. Bannister will give demonstrations.
