Good duck shooting is obtainable on a number of small lakes at Tiniroto, but according to the settlers of the district a special method must be adopted before any great success can be attained (says the Poverty Bay “Herald”). There are seven small lakes in close proximity, and, it is stated, it is useles for one party to operate independently at one of the lakes. The setlers uually divide themselves into small parties, one for each lake. The shooting at the first lake frightens the birds to the next, the slaughter at the second sending them on to the next and so on, till the birds are kept fluttering from lake to lake, and fairly good shooting is obtained by all parties.
