I.C. AND A. CONFERENCE
* FARMERS’ REPRESENTATION MUCH DISSATISFACTION. EXPRESSED ' A conference convened by the New Zealand farmers’ Union and attended by delegates from the farmers’ Union, the Royal Agricultural Society and the Dairy farmers’ Union was held on Monday to formulate evidence for the National' Industrial Conference ■ to be held on March 27, which would meet the yiews of all primary producers. The Sheepowners’ federation telegraphed an apology for non-represen-tation. . The whole day was spent in discussing the' union’s views on this Subject. It is reported that considerable surprise and disappointment was freely expressed by delegates at the representation allocated. the New Zealand farmers’ Union in comparison with the others farmers’ organisations, namely, agricultural farmers (wheatgrowers, etc.), 5; sheepfarmers, 5; and 1 dairyfarmers, -5; as the farmers’ Union contained a much larger percentage of sheepfarmers and dairyfarmers, than any other organisation representing the primary producers of the Dominion. .Professor B. B. Murphy was present as. advisor to the conference on economic questions. The following five delegates were selected to represent the farmers’ Union at the National Industrial Conferenc: —Messrs W. J. Polson, f. Colbeck, R. S. Chadwick, W. W. Mulholland and J. Carr. . Tn all probability another conference of farmers’ organisations will be held at Wellington on february 28, when the question will be further discussed.
