MR. BAVIN LEAVES FOR AUSTRALIA
“HAD A VERY ENJOYABLE TIME” Interviewed by a Dominion reporter yesterday, prior "to his departure by the Tahiti on his return to Sydney, the Hon. T. R. Bavin, Premier of New South Wales, stated that he had come to New Zealand for a holiday and a rest, and had had a very enjoyable time. “I came with the intention of not making any speeches, and I think I have managed to escape that ordeal,” laughingly added Mr. Bavin. In travelling through the agricultural districts of the Dominion he bad been struck with the evidences of progress, and especially with the closer settlement that was taking place. The appearance of the country districts was very gratifying in view of what was regarded as a period of drought. Mr. Bavin’s itinerary in the South Island included a .tour of the Southern Lakes—Hawea, Wanaka, and Wakatipu. The Hermitage at Mount Cook was visited, also Dunedin. ■ Mr. Bavin said he had noticed with much interest the increasing number of Australian visitors at the tourist resorts —he had met thejn everywhere—and he commented favourably on the efficiency of the work of the Tourist Department, especially in the mapping out of visitors’ tours.
