The adventures of an Invercargill business man recently in attempting to enjoy a quiet smoke are reminiscent of the illustrated advertisements for patent tobaccos, but the analogy does not extend as far as the happy ending picturing the weary seeker enveloped in clouds of smoke and contentment (says the “Times”). Craving the soothing influence of Lady Nicotine the business man produced a packet of cigarettes, but a search in every pocket for matches proved unavailing. Realising that the tobacconists were closed, he sought an electric radiator after his fruitless search for matches, but his luck was out as the radiator f used at the critical moment. Thereupon he wended his way upstairs in search of another radiator, which, however, did not fuse this time, but an unforeseen circumstance prevented him from enjoying a smoke—the cigarette packet rvas empty!
