NEW MAJESTIC A THEATRE
CONTRACT LET It was announced last evening that a contract had been let by the Alessrs. Fuller and Hayward to the Hansford and Mills Construction Company for the construction of the new Alajestic Theatre in Willis Street. This picture theatre, which, it is said, will surpass all others in New Zealand, will be erected on the site of the present Empress Theatre, in Willis Street, and extending back to Boulcott Street, over the properties recently owned and in the possession of Drs. McLean and Begg. The entire project will cost in the vicinity of £175,000. The architect is Mr. W. J. Prouse, of Wellington. The theatre will have a seating capacity of 2500, whilst the up-to-date cabaret to be provided under the main floor of the auditorium will provide accommodation for 500 guests. The size of the new theatre may be judged from the fact that the present auditorium of the Empress Theatre roughly outlines the foyer of the new one. The new theatre will be opened on December 15, this year.
