HUTT ROAD PIER
STRONG PROTEST TO BE MADE At last night’s meeting of the’Wellington Automobile Club it was stated that the Prime Minister would ’.‘receive a deputation in regard to the erection of the central pier on the Hutt Road on Thursday at 3 p.m. The chairman (Mr. F. W. Manton) pointed out that local members of Parliament had affirmed they were led to believe that the pier was not going up. He did not think the voice of the people' carried any weight at all, and the citizens would know what to do in future. Apparently the decision of the Public Works officials was to guide the Minister in the matter, and there. was no use going to the Government with deputations. He considered that the motorists had been misled. A strong protest was necessary. ■Mr. Batt said it had been stated that there was no possibility of Cabinet going back on its decision to erect the pier. Various local bodies and organisations have been asked to attend the deputation.
