A wonderful fairy saloon was provided for Princess Elizabeth when she travelled with the King and Queen on the Royal train from King’s Cross to Sandringham at Christinas time. The cushions were all covered with printed chintz representing stories from fairy books, while on the floor was a picture rug and a blue woollen travelling shawl. Around the sides of the carriage were bundles of holly intertwined with glittering silver foil, strands of which were also looped from each corner to the centre of the roof, from which hung a huge Christmas craker. Princess Elizabeth reached the station in charge of Miss Knight, her nurse, some 10 minutes before the King and Queen and was quickly surrounded by ■in admiring group of r.clnay officials. Tile King and Queen travelled in a saloon immediately behind that of the Princess. On entering the train the King and Queen went straight to the saloon of the baby princess, who was dressed in a pink pantie velvet coat and hat, both trimmed with browii fur.
