THE CHERNIASKY TRIO

The Cherniavsky Trio closed their Wellington season with a very fine recital in the Concert Chamber on Saturday evening, performed before an appreciative audience. A welcome repeat number was the favourite Arensky, "Trio m D Minor” (Op. JB), played in perfect concert, and with fine spirit and expression. Other concerted numbers included a "Romance” from Glinka; Mendelssohn’s "Spring Song,” and a ‘ lav dance from Dvorak. The recall numbers included "By the Waters of Minnetonka” and "Anitra’s Dance, from Greig’s "Peer Gy nt” Soute. Mischel Cherniavsky, tho accomplished ’cellist of the rarty. was in excellent form, and delighted his audience with several fine numbers, which included A alcntino s "Sonata in F Major.” Potter’s "Spinning Wheel,” the musician’s own "Berceuse fa dainty conception). s ‘La was added as a recall number. Beethoven’s fine "Sonata Pathetioue’ was Jan Gherniavsky’s main contribution as solo nianist. It was a fine mternretive effort, earning for the nlaver a double recall. Leo I'lierniavskv’s violin number was ErnsFs celebrated concerto. to which were added in .response to insistent demands, two recall nieces, a Brahms’s waltz being much admired.
