For health reasons the Hon. G. J. Anderson has found it necessary to obtain leave of absence from bis duties in the Ministry and in Parliament (states a Press Association message from Gore). He has been advised by his medical adviser to take a long sea voyage. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson will leave for England bv the Mataroa, sailing from Wellington’ on March 17, and hope to return to the Dominion about the middle of the coming session. The Hon. T. R. Bavin, Premier of New South Wales, returned to Welling-

ton from the South Island yesterday morning. Last evening he attended divine worship at Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, by special invitation of the minister and office-bearers. The Rev. R. Bavin, father of the New South Wales Premier, was president of the New Zealand Conference when minister of Wesley Church in 1883. At the close of last night’s service Mr. Bavin was entertained at supper, when he met many old friends of his father’s and some who remembered him when associated with Wesley Church as a lad. Mr. H. L. Tapley. M.P., for Dunedin North, arrived in Wellington from the south on Saturday morning and went on to Auckland bv the afternoon express. He will leave New Zealand by the Aorangi to-morrow for England, via Canada, on a combined business and pleasure trip. He expects to return in time for the next session of Parliament. Mr. H. Smith, formerly general manager in New Zealand of the Phoenix Assurance Company, is again in Wellington after a motor tour of the North Island. He intends to return to Montreal at the end of the summer. A Press Association message from Vancouver says that Captain H. L. Seligson, M.P., of South Africa, sailed bv the Niagara on a tour of Australia and New Zealand, mapping out a scheme to foster inter-imperial and international trade relations.
