RIFLE SHOOTING

CLUB COMPETITIONS AT TRENTHAM Rifle shooting was conducted at Trentham on Saturday, from the 300, SCO, and 600 yards ranges. There was the usual tricky fishtail wind and the changes r< quired very careful watching. It heat and light were also troublesome. PETONE CLUB The Petone Rifle Club fired a spoon competition. At 300 wards A. O’DonneH led with 32. followed' by A. Weir. T. Warburton. A. Scott and O. Pedersen with 31 each. At 500 yards W. Jackson, W. Johnston and R. Walsh each registered 32. followed by W. H. Ballinger and T. Warburton, with 31 each. At the 600 vard range the light was bad. and sighting very bard, and scoring suffered in consequence. W. Johnston was top scorer here with 32. followed by A. O’Donnell with 30. The best aggregate was secured by W. Johnston with 94. A. O’Donnell being next with 92 and 1. Warburton 91. The snoon winners were W. Johnston for A grade, J. Scott and G. Old for B grade, and E. Fugc for C grade. The Jenness and Partridge team badges were won bv E. Ballinger’s team with a total of 423 noints (T. Warburton 91, E. Fuge 87. F. Williams 83 O. Pedersen 82. E. Ballinger 80). followed by A. Ballinger’s team 419. W./ 11. Ballingers team 419, R. 11. Nicholl’s team 409, W. Mclver’s team 360. On Saturday next the club will be represented in the teams competitions between New South Wales. Wairarapa, Wellington. and Victoria, bv A. Ballinger, E. SUBURBS CLUB The Suburbs Rifle Club fired a practice shoot. At 300 yards H. R. Hunt, J. Smart and T. Kidd. 32. were best, at 500 vards R. E. Hester. G. Tracy and T. Goodall, 33. shot well, and at 600 yards T. Kidd and G. Tracv. 33. were the leaders. followed bv H. R. Hunt and S. F. McLean. 32. T. Kidd, with 96, was top scorer for the dav. Following are the

OLD NAVALS The Old Navals Defence Rifle Club shot the final of the short-range aggregate and Rabe Cup. Rifleman J. Pitt, 94, President Standiflge, 82, Franklyn. Cories, Clout. 88. did best. The Rabe Cup was won by President Standidge with a fine score of 452 points. Rifleman C. Lawtonwas runner-bp with 441 points. The Cup was donated by Mrs. J. Rabe in memory of her late husband, the clubs first president, to be known as the Rabe Memorial Cup. This year it is »hot for as a handicap competition. KARORI CLUB The Karori Rifle Club held a shoot over ranges 300, 500, and 600 yards, which concluded another fortnightly competition. Sultry weather and difficult sighting caused elevation trouble in most cases. 11. Boon, senior, led the scratch men, but F. T.
