The United States Government fully approves the plan for the British group to begin a regular airship trans-Atlantic mail and passenger service, the Secretary of Commerce, Mr. H. Hoover, announced on Thurday, and co-opera-tion would be effective. The first trial trip of RlOO is to take place within three months. VESSELS READY THIS YEAR EXPERIMENTS WITH NEW BEACON Rugby, 1- ebruary 9.
The Secretary for Air (Sir Samuel Hoare) was asked whether he could give definite dates for the launching of airships RlOO and RlOl. He said he hoped that both of these airships would be flying before the end of the year. RlOO would be flying before the end of the summer. Replying to another question, Sir Samuel said that experiments in the United States with a neon gas beacon
for the purpose of emitting rays which would penetrate fog for the guidance of aircraft were being closely watched by the Air Ministry. The neon beacon was, in fact, in regular use as part of the landing svstem at Croydon. It was installed as long ago as 1924, and was the first beacon of its kind to be used for aviation.—British Official Wireless.
