4 The Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright returned to Wellington from the north yesterday. Sir Tom Bridges, retiring Governor of South Australia, is a passenger from Sydney by the Aorangi, says a Press Association cable message. He intends to do some deep-sea fishing in New Zealand before he returns to England. Sir Charles Holdsworth, managing director of the Union Companly, accompanied by Lady Holdsworth, left Wellington \ yesterday for Rotorua on his way to Auckland, where he will join the Aorangi, sailing on T uesday for England. Bishop J. Nakada, of the Oriental Missionary Society, who has been lecturing throughout the North Island left Wellington yesterday on the return journey to Japan. Dr. Kelly, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Svdnev, is a passenger by the Manukaj which left .Melbourne on Wednesday for the Bluff, and will spend a short holiday in New Zealand. He will visit Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. Major W. I. K. Jennings, of the New Zealand Staff Corps, Jias completed the first course at the Imperial Defence College, says an A.P.A. and “Sun” message from Loudon. At the Architects’ Conference at Invercargill, Mr. F. L. Moody was reelected president.—Press Assn.
Mr. M. Kenipson, of Kidderminster, England, is visiting Wellington. Mr. T. Nicholson, manager of . the New Zealand branch of the British Imperial Oil Company, accompanied by Mrs. Nicholson, left Wellington yesterday on a business trip to Melbourne.
Mr. W.' R. Morris, of Morris Motors, Ltd., England, who has been touring the North Island, left Wellington yesterday by the Ulimaro-i for Sydney.
Colonel J. Sclater, traffic manager of the Canadian Pacific Railways for Australia and New Zealand, who has been on a visit to New Zealand, left on the return trip to Svdnev by the Ulimaroa yesterday.
Mr. H. Muller, representative of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., at San Francisco, who has been on a visit to New Zealand, left for Sydney by the Ulimaroa yesterday.
Mr. W. W. Duff, who has occupied the position of manager of Famous Lasky Film Service, Ltd., for the past five years, and who has resigned in order to take a trip abroad, was entertained by members of the Film Exchanges Association of New Zealand (Inc.) at a farewell luncheon at the Grand Hotel on Thursday. Mr. E. Rutledge, manager of Fox Films, and vice-president of the Film Exchanges Association, presided. Mr. C. F. Eskell, general manager of Universal, proposed the toast of “Our Gnest,” and presented Mr. Duff with a solid leather suitcase as a token of the esteem in which he was held by those with whom he had worked for so long. Mr. A. McGowan, general manager of Australasian Films, Ltd., also spoke, and Mr. Duff suitably replied. The opportunity was taken to extend a hearty welcome to New Zealand to Mr. Duff’s successor, Mr. S. Craig, who had been transferred from Adelaide.
