HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL
REPORT BY INSPECTOR. The Hutt County Council met last night, the chairman (Mr. S. Blackley) presiding. There were also present Councillors S'. G. Nathan, D. R< Hoggard, A. S. Mildenhall. J. M- Whiteman. F. Bradv and \V. V. Dyer. The county inspector (Mr. H., Dyer), who temporarily assumed control of the outside work in the county on January 20, reported that the installation of the water scheme in the Herptaunga riding, to connect up Herataunga with the Upper Hutt water supply, was well under way Practically all the excavation had been done, and the laying of the 2in. pipes was about completed. The (iin. pipes at Barton and ■ Golt Roads were ready to be laid, and he expected them to be in place during tho ensuing week. Owing to the lack of fittings and supplies which had to bo provided after he took charge, the work was slightly delayed. The material was now to hand and rapid progress should be made. Preparation had been made to connect up with consumers if required as the work proceeded. The bridge leading to the Plateau in the Munjaroa riding was in a dangerous condition and required immediate attention. Notice had been put ur> stating that the bridge unsafe for traffic. At Akatarawa Load reserve the gorso had been cut and burned “The continued dry w,eather. added the inspector, “is having a very detrimental effect on the county roads, which in some places are very, much tho worse for wear.”
