S.M.. in the Magistrates Court yesterday to selling adulterated St For ll the prosecution, it was stated that an Inspector had called at the hotel and taken a sample, which, when analysed, was shown to contain 18 per cent, oi "m” A. J. Mazengarb, who represented defendant, said that the schnapps was not very much adulterated The Magistrate: It contained 18 per cent, of water. Mr. Mazenparb. and that is rouirhtly one-fifth. . Mr. Mazencarb: That ts so. Sir. but it is not so very much. Tho proprietor did not sell it himself, but a barman did to tlie inspector. It appears that, in order to make the bar pay. the barman added the water without the knowledge of the licensee. He has. I believe. since been discharged. Defendant was fined £lO and costs. A charge of selling the schnanps to a person without first Informing them that it contained 18 per cent, of water, which was brought under the Licensing Aot, was withdrawn by leave of Court.
