CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. This afternoon aud evening the amateur athletic championships of. the Wellington provinco will bo decided. The contest for the McVilly Shield, which denotes elub superiority, is expected to be exceptionally keen. The holders, AVellington Club, will field its best team, including Jenkins, Fleming, Lander, Munro, Sutherland, Brady, Bayne, Munro, Flett, Gane, Searle, Carswell, Leech. The University Club has a strong- contingent to carry its colours, and with Sceats, Allan, Priestlev and Ramson as their mainstays should give the shield-holders a battle royal. A strong contingent is. expected from Masterton. including T.' Oaklev and Holniwood (hurdler). As a special attraction, tho two Australian champion cyclists, Standen and Gray, will make their initial appearance on the local track and will contest the principal races against Oakley. Flett, Carswell, Gane, Scarfe and others. A programme of such dimensions could not bo staged on tho one afternoon, so the AA'cllington Centre of tlie New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has decided to start a portion cf tlie programme at Athletic Park at 2 p.tu, and the balance at tho Basin Reserve at 8 p in. Prices aro kept at the usual rate of one shilling admittance and one shilling for the stand.
